Shop Small. I’m sure by now you’ve seen the signs posted in the shop windows & on social media. This idea of supporting local businesses has officially become “trendy”. I (Jess) don’t usually get excited about what’s “trendy”, but this is something that excites the hell out of me!
Don’t get me wrong, I love my Amazon Prime membership and Target trips as much as the next mama, but I also get a rush out of buying gifts for my mom friends at local children’s boutiques. And, whenever possible, I will always choose one of our amazing local coffee shops over Starbucks. I love supporting local businesses.
For those of you that don’t know, Honest Mama is not our first business venture. Giselle and I have both had businesses of our own in the past. To this day, one of my favorite things about having my own business is meeting other business owners and finding ways to collaborate and support each other.
So today we wanted to take a moment to highlight a few of our favorite local businesses and tell you why we love them! Some of them have even been gracious enough to share a special promotion just for our followers! Enjoy!!
N7 Creamery is a destination for delicious food made from ethically sourced ingredients that align with your values. We source from local farmers we know and partners we trust, supporting our communities and creating stronger more meaningful relationships with those we serve. N7 exists to create experiences where fun, passion, knowledge, and purpose come together to empower all of us to transform the world we are a part of.
We personally love N7 for the experience & amazing food! The owners have done a beautiful job of creating an environment that feels like home. They have added so many personal touches, such as a map showing where all of their customers have visited from and a bookshelf, reminiscent of Portland coffee shops. They may have started as an ice cream company, but they have also mastered specialty coffee, savory food & gourmet baked goods (my personal favorite is the chocolate chip cookie)!
If you’re shopping at Victoria Gardens this holiday season, be sure to take a break and stop by for an experience you won’t forget!
Noonday Collection is a socially responsible business that uses fashion to create meaningful opportunities around the world. We partner with artisan entrepreneurs to make a difference in some of the world’s most vulnerable communities. By developing artisan businesses through fair trade, we empower them to grow sustainably and to create dignified jobs for people who need them. We currently partner with groups in 13 countries and our collection is handcrafted by over 4,000 artisans. We also give 10% of sales at adoption trunk shows to help adoptive families bring their children home and have helped over 1600 families in doing so.
From Nataly, our featured Noonday Ambassador: I’m not a “sales party” type of person. A friend of mine became a Noonday ambassador, asked if I would like to host a trunk show and I initially hesitated. Once I heard the artisan stories and realized how they were empowering women around the world I knew Noonday was something different. I love that we create lasting pathways out of poverty for so many. I’m confident that even as a stay-at-home mom I can be a voice for women in vulnerable situations across the globe who, just like me, want their families and children to thrive. I see Noonday as a wearable and beautiful investment in creating opportunity around the world and I’m honored to be a part of such an amazing brand.
I (Jess) purchased my first piece of Noonday jewelry simply because I loved the mission. I have spent time in developing countries and loved the idea of helping to create opportunities for some of these amazing artists. I was so impressed with the quality and got compliments on my bracelet everywhere I went! I can’t rave enough about Noonday! And how cool is it to think that you can buy a loved one a beautiful gift while helping someone else in the process. Win-win!
Owner and designer of Pink Palms Boho Designs, Ashely Thompson, is everything I (Giselle) love in what a stay at home mom/business woman stands for and more. Her love and talent for creating something unique while pursuing her motherly calling is not an easy feat and when you look at her products you may just wonder how she manages to make time to create something so cool!! I’m such a fan of anything homemade and she has successfully created such a beautiful blend of styles that anyone can find something unique for their home, office, friend, family, kids, you name it. Best of all, you know whatever you take home was made with love.
From the owner: Hi! My name is Ashley Thompson, and I am the creator and owner of Pink Palms Boho Designs. I am a stay at home, homeschool momma and wife. Being a stay at home mom and wife, I have always thought of ways that I can decorate my home with lots of style but on a budget. I love modern, as far as the minimalist feel, the copper and the geometric shapes but love the coziness of boho and so I love mixing the two!
My goal in Pink Palms is to bring that to my customers and also to inspire them that boho decor can mix with any style, be it modern, farmhouse, vintage…my pieces add so much to any space and for a price that people can afford. I LOVE and welcome custom orders. I find so much joy working with my customers as a team to help bring an idea or vision of a decor piece come to life. Each of my wall hangings or plant hanging is made uniquely and always something I would hang in my own home.
La Doyenne is by far one of the most unique small business concepts I (Giselle) have had the pleasure to experience. It’s all in the name!!! La Doyenne, pronounced doiˈ(y)en is defined as “a woman who is the most respected or prominent person in a particular field.” Angi and Jeanie have created such a welcoming and comfortable space to share their natural talent of making women feel confident and naturally beautiful. I have personally had the La Doyenne experience (as I call it) and it’s changed my life. Their studio in San Diego echoes everything cool about each of these talented women, while their work speaks nothing more than true professionalism.
This is why I love La Doyenne and am excited to share them with our community.
